One thing I always forget is putting everything inside the main script. While this used to be fine for smaller games, I’m starting to realize the toll of putting all of my eggs in one basket…
It’s definitely harder to read code that’s all over the place, and often somewhere unexpected.

Now that my code is compartmentalized – a system where each “object” has it’s own unique script – it is definitely easier to move around and find optimizations! The only real disadvantages are:

  • You have to make sure to include the export keyword, otherwise functions/variables won’t show in the editor
  • You have to double check all uses in your code of previous variables, as you need to point the main script in the right direction

Otherwise, once you get it going, it’s actually so much nicer… I would recommend this to anyone making a larger scale game

You know, as much as I use the forum, it’s surprising how little I spend on this one topic

you don’t have to put your code in namespaces, I don’t but still have different files.

OMG we’re getting GTA in makecode before GTA 6.

Jokes aside, this looks so cool. Building off of your older games is something I’ve thought about a lot, mostly in my fantasies about The Glorb War, and I can’t wait to see what you have in store.
