Transferring game assets between projects?

I NEED HELP :sob: and it’s for the MakeCode forums 3. I started working on it with an older version of the MakeCode forums 2, and it doesn’t have any of the character profile pictures! Just to note, that took a REALLY LONG TIME TO MAKE and I really don’t want to have to do it again!

Now, I could copy and paste assets from The MakeCode Forums 2, but there are two issues with that:

  1. Not bothered :upside_down_face:
  2. Opening any The MakeCode Forums project on my iPad rn = instantaneous crash

So right now I need some form of a way to grab ALL the assets from one game, ALL AT ONCE, and jam it into another game. Please, if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated!

Try importing this as an extension. Your assets will appear in the gallery. If I missed any that you need, then just let me know.

I mean, that works, too!

For those of you interested in creating your own asset packs, I wrote about it in my (still ongoing) series of articles on writing tutorials and skillmaps. These instructions come directly from @richard 's post in another thread. He even created a video tutorial!

Thanks so much :astonished:

Assets have always been an issue for me: organising them, transferring them and… shudder… building them…

Does this work for music?
if not then would you mind looking into it? Because music can’t be copied as text outside of javascript i think this would be extremely useful

Hi, @Luke !

It should work with anything that you can put into the Asset Manager: images, animations, tiles, tilemaps, and songs.

this changes everything, apprently if you change the name on this and put diffrent tiles in it and upload at as project link you can copy that project link to make it as your own extension transfering all your assets into any game you want. basically giving you the ability to give you more than 1000 tiles in one project while the tilemap you just imported as a extension would still have the tiles that was from a different project.

basically what I’m saying through a bunch of complicated mumbo jumbo and renaming the link you just made and using it as an extension for you own project as an extension could give you the ability to transport 1000 of tilemaps into 1 project, the only limit is if your computer can handle it but besides it speed runs tilemap importing to only a few minutes
